NetSupport DNA provides a range of
features to locate and Manage PCs and Users within a networked
environment. Not only does DNA store key user data (Name, Telephone
etc.) but it also provides detailed storage of supporting Asset, Lease
and Maintenance data. In addition DNA provides the customer with the
ability to customise the data to be gathered and collated from each
user.
DNA also provides the mechanism to
create Dynamic groups, these are added to the main Company Tree view
and can contain PCs from any number of departments. A typical group
might be "all PCs with Windows XP and more than 256Mb of Ram".
Other supporting Tools include
Connection Statistics, Find User, Chat, Message and a powerful Data
Query Tool.

NetSupport DNA features a powerful
Hardware Inventory module that presents a wealth of information about
a specific PC, from CPU and BIOS to Memory, Memory slots used and even
those available for future expansion.
When viewing the Company as a whole
or a department, DNA provides quick and easy summaries by category,
such as all PCs grouped by OS, CPU type or Memory.

Manually Input Hardware Items :
Whilst the DNA server will dynamically retrieve information from any
machines that have a Client installed, in case of remote offices
outside the network, manual intervention may be required in order to
gain complete inventory information.
Similar to the "Add User" utility, NetSupport DNA v2 also
provides a "Non Scanned Hardware" utility where peripheral equipment
such as routers, web cams or speakers can be manually inputted into
DNA's inventory and associated with existing PCs. |

DNA
features a detailed summary of all applications detected on a target
PC, this information including supporting application Icon is
displayed on either a PC by PC basis or on a group basis where totals
(with a drill down) for each application are shown.
Data gathered can be customised to
group differing versions of a common application, reflect company
licence limits and more.
-
Ability to report the number of applications installed on every DNA
Client within the Company.
-
Monitor current licence levels.
-
Software Inventory can be configured by the User to run at different
time intervals.
-
Inventory settings can be configured for all DNA Clients or separate
Departments.
-
NetSupport DNA provides the option to customise applications into
groups. Applications gathered can be customised to group different
versions of the same application, including the number of valid
licences.

Identifies all applications installed on
Client PCs the DNA application Metering component reports back all
applications used on a Target PC, details reflect the time the
application was started and finished, the actual time it was in use
and when viewed at departmental level, summaries by frequency of use
or by duration are shown.
In addition application usage can be
restricted on target PCs by Time of Day, for all users or usage can be
limited to specified PC's.

Effective
Asset Management not only relates to knowing what assets are currently
located on the network but also to being able to identify historical
changes.
The
History option enables you to track changes to a Clients Hardware and
Software. Each time DNA gathers Inventory data it compares the current
details against information already held on the server and if there
are any differences they are recorded in the History.

In order to maintain accurate asset
information it is vital that all user/hardware and software related
data is recorded. Whilst the DNA Server will dynamically retrieve
information from those machines that have a Client installed, there
will be instances where peripheral equipment, such as routers, will
not be found or remote PCs that are not connected to the network.
To
ensure that this information is known, DNA provides you with the tools
to add details of 'non-scanned' items manually.
Often, the user base comprises remote PCs that cannot be found
dynamically when using DNA, such as users in remote offices not
connected to the network. Therefore any asset information gathered for
the enterprise as a whole may be incomplete without details of these
remote PCs.
The DNA v2 "Add User" tool enables the enterprise to maintain a
record of those remote users, along with their associated hardware and
software. In order to maintain accurate asset information it is vital
that such details are reported within DNA.
The file DNAInv.exe, installed in the DNA program folder, is
sent to the user who runs the utility on their machine. This creates
an Inventory for the local machine, which is then returned to the
operator who imports the information into DNA. The user details are
added to the tree view along with the Inventory.

NetSupport
DNA Software Inventory gathers and reports on all installed
applications across your enterprise.
This functionality has been expanded by additionally providing the
ability to search target folders and report back on all files that
match your pre-defined criteria.
For
example, searches can now be carried out to list all .mp3, .avi, .doc
files or similar.

DNAs Query
Tool now provides the facility to attach a query to the component it
relates to enabling operators to produce customised reports, which can
be quickly accessed from the relevant information window. Results are
presented on screen and the data can be sorted to suit individual
requirements.
The new Query view allows a Console user to create custom on
screen reports, viewable in a single click, that can be sorted "on the
fly", providing the flexibility to create a truly customised
interface.

|
|
NetSupport
DNA 2.0 includes a new smart update facility. In future a console user
can select the "check for updates" option, this will connect to the
NetSupport Group website, check and where appropriate download any new
updates available for the product.
Once
downloaded, these updates are automatically applied to the DNA server,
all console users and all clients across the enterprise, providing
single click update management.
|
 |
| |
|
|
From
within both the Software Inventory and Application Metering views,
NetSupport DNA now provides customized Application Groups.
In essence applications of a common type i.e. "Games, Utilities" can
be assigned to application groups, and these can then be used to show
focused Inventory or Metering results on screen by category.

|
To ease
network traffic congestion when executing large-scale deployments, DNA
enables you to nominate a Client, ideally local to the target
machines, to act as a 'distribution warehouse'.
When the Package is deployed, rather than the server pushing it to
each Client in turn, it installs at the Warehouse Client, which then
distributes it to the remaining targets.
|
 |
| |
|
|
Designed
for situations where the application to be rolled-out does not have
its own 'silent' install routine. The Packager enables operators to
record and playback a 3rd party installer.
All necessary keystrokes and mouse movements are stored in a script,
which is then played back at Client PCs without the need for user
intervention.
