UltraBac Disaster Recovery (UBDR) Gold uses snapshot, also
referred to as image-based, backup and disaster recovery
technology to provide lightning fast recovery for users of Windows
servers and workstations. The software is compatible with
every Windows NT, 2000, 2003, and XP operating system. UBDR Gold
uses UltraBac's ability to perform image backups, along with a
Windows based universal boot CD environment, to restore one or
more disk partitions even when no operating system is available.
UBDR Gold can be licensed for independent, stand-alone use, or it
can be fully integrated with UltraBac's regular file-by-file
backup and restore software.
Like UBDR Pro, Gold provides
customers the same great features along with the ability to cold
boot a machine and either perform image or file based backups to
literally every type of storage device: SAN, NAS, UNC path,
local disk, TSM, FTP, local/remote tape devices, and autoloaders.
However, UBDR Gold differs significantly from Pro by not only
providing optional agents for TSM, FTP, and autoloaders, but by
giving users the ability to perform either image or file based
backup and restore operations while booted from the UBDR Gold CD.
This means an administrator can boot a failed machine and safely
back up data partitions to any available disk, tape, or network
location before allowing repair technicians free reign to
potentially make a bad situation worse.
UBDR Gold is the first bare
metal recovery utility that has integrated FTP into disaster
recovery. With an FTP recovery, an image can be restored from
a LAN, WAN, or the Internet. UBDR Gold also includes support for
remote tape devices, tape libraries, and autoloaders.
While UBDR Pro is able to
initiate and remotely monitor restores, UBDR Gold goes a step
further with the ability to fully script restores. Using a
simple scripting file, the entire restore process can be as simple
as booting from the CD and walking away. UBDR Gold will set up the
network, restore the image to a pre-selected partition(s), and
automatically reboot the machine when it is done. This eliminates
having to walk non-technical personnel through the recovery
process - it is already done for them.
